Why trust these numbers?

Sourced, then dated

Energy prices come from the Ofgem price cap; grant amounts and deadlines from the published scheme rules; install costs from MCS-based market data. Every figure carries a “checked October 2026” label.

Estimates say so

Where a number is a market estimate rather than a published figure — install prices, savings, payback — it is labelled “estimate” and shown as a range, never a single convenient figure.

Nothing to sell you

We don’t install anything and don’t take commission from installers. The maths is shown in the open so you can check it, change the assumptions, and take the results to any quote.

Common questions

How much do solar panels cost in the UK in 2026?

A typical 4kW system costs an estimated £6,000–£8,000 installed (MCS data suggests roughly £1,565–£1,686 per kW). With a 5kWh battery, expect £10,000–£14,000. Installs are 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. Try the solar cost calculator for your roof.

Are solar panels worth it at 2026 prices?

At 26.32p/kWh, a well-sited 4kW system typically pays back in an estimated 10–15 years (nearer 10 with a battery), then generates for 25+ years. The honest maths — including when it is not worth it — is in our worth-it guide and the payback calculator.

Which grants end soon?

ECO4 ends 31 December 2026 and the 0% VAT window closes 31 March 2027. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (£7,500 heat pump grant) runs to 2030. Check what you qualify for in the grant checker.
